Eating Italian is a lot more than simply putting Italian food & wine on the table.

It’s the smiles of your friends toasting “alla salute” while drinking an aperitivo at sunset. It’s the boiling hot espresso you quickly swallow standing at the bar, greeting “buongiorno” to perfect strangers. It’s the excitement of the kids at the beach, eating a panino all wrapped up in their towels after a swim in the sea. It’s sitting by the fireplace in a weekly rental in the Alps, sipping vin brulé after a day on the slopes. It’s strolling down the street licking ice cream like an 8-year-old. It’s the jaw dropping experience of dining surrounded by art and immersed in history.

It doesn’t matter if these are the memories of your last holidays or the memories of our own childhood. These are experiences and emotions that unite us in the love for Italy, its landscapes, its lifestyle, its food and its wine.

We are an Italian family from Reggio Emilia, home to delicatessen like Parmigiano Reggiano, Balsamic vinegar, and nonna’s made stuffed egg-pasta like tortelli, lasagne and cappelletti. No wonder we sometimes can become homesick, right?

We moved to the Netherlands to pursue a job opportunity in a big corporation back in 2012. With 3 teen-age boys who eat tons of pasta at every hour of the day, finding good quality Italian product at a reasonable price became paramount for us. At the beginning we used to make trips to Italy just to fill up the car with food and wine, but that soon became unpractical, even for dedicated traditional eaters like us.

One day, washing dishes after a dinner with friends, we decided to take the next step in this adventure and soon after, the idea of creating an e.commerce was born. Yes, maybe we were a bit tipsy that evening and over enthusiastic, but now that reality has sunk in we proudly put all our energies, work and commitment into making this project work and into making our customers happy.

We know that you’re buying a nice bottle to celebrate a special occasion or to enjoy a quiet evening with your other half; that you’re buying porcini mushrooms because you’re organizing a polenta party with your friends; that you buy a real panettone because it immediately throws you in a Christmas mode. We want you to be satisfied with what you buy and proud of what you serve your family and friends.

iTaliatella’s food selection includes authentic food and ingredients coming from all regions in Italy – from olive oil to tuna and anchovies, from pasta and rice to sauces and pesto, from Parmigiano to truffles. We buy from premium brands as well as from family-run businesses, which is exactly what we would do if we were still living in Italy. We don’t aim at being exclusive and niche with our assortment, but inclusive instead: we want our offer to be credible yet accessible to all pockets, and we want that even our kids, who are now university students, can afford to have an authentic Italian meal once in a while.

When it comes to wines and craft beers, iTaliatella’s selection is entirely curated by our friend Anton, who’s part of the team that won the 2019 Dutch Championship of blind wine tasting and that represented the Netherlands in the World Championship, ranking 9.

We pack our boxes in a way that the content is delivered to you intact and ready to use. Our boxes are entirely made of recycled cardboard.
